Frequently Asked Questions

  • I need a new shop front glazing replacement, can you help?

We now do shopfront glass replacements and commerical low level glazing for most businesses. Your shop front glass is a marketing tool that can help with selling your products or services. High street is central to UK's retail experience and an unattractive damaged facade does no favours to trade. Preston Glass Fix understands this and aims to attend your premises quickly for measuring your commercial glass replacement so that the order is put through fast to restore your brand sooner rather than later.

  • Should I use laminated glass for my shop front?

Safety laminated glass is best especially if it is single glazed as it is great at keeping the broken glass together when it breaks. Unlike float glass it has a sticky film between 2 layers of float glass that prevents large shard pieces from coming away and risking an injury to customers or passing people. It has a better impact resistance that standard glass due to the build up layers which makes it ideal and safer for shop fronts and other public areas.

  • My shop front glass has a dark tint, can you match it?

Often newer buildings will have a building plan which details the specification for the glass used. Having this saves time in having to interrupt the retail sector to measure and inspect the glazing, although we can match tint or colour of glass where necessary.

  • Can you fix my broken glass on the first floor of a retail premises?

Each premise we visit is inspected on an individual basis. Commercial double glazed units and shop front glass replacements are usually very large and heavy duty made to certain specification. Often we may use tower access, specialist lifting equipment such as the Glassboy with vacuum suction device or if under a certain weight, manpower is sufficient.

First floor glass replacement from the outside will require lifting equipment which may be the manual or electric Glassboy extending to the first floor or a truck mounted crane. Of course, we will have to consider access to the retail premises and the location of the glazing.
