Condensation On Glass Windows Demisted

Double glazing windows that are misted or steamed up on the inner panes fixed.

Misted, cloudy, foggy or steamy glass with condensation inside the double glazed unit will affect the efficiency of your property. You will lose up to 20% heat from your home!

Double glazing windows usually have an inert gas such as argon or krypton which is hermetically sealed in to regulate the temperature between the panes. It plays a vital role in making your home energy efficient and with the extra Low-E coating to help keep heat in, it will meet the minimum energy performance rating on an EPC. A breach of the seal can cause the glass to lose its insulating properties and let moisture creep into the space between the glazing to form condensation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is it possible to remove the fog from my toughened glass unit?

Attempting to repair toughened glass that appear steamy or cloudy is definitely not advised. Cutting into it will shatter the whole piece, therefore our misty window repair service does not apply to toughened glass units. You can check if your glass is toughened by searching for a distinctive stamp in the corner of the pane. If so, you will need a glass replacement.

  • Should I get my cloudy window defogged instead?

Repairing misty window glass that is of a standard clear glazing type is cheap but not really cost effective. For a little much more, you can get a new and more modern energy efficient unit with the latest high-tech updates. There is also the likelihood of saving money over a longer period with lower energy consumption.

  • Do you fix misty double glazing glass in my patio door?

Preston Glass Fix can replace misty or steamy glass in timber and uPVC profiles, whether in conservatories, orangeries, porches or patio doors.

  • Is it easy to clear water from my single glazed window?

Condensation on singe glazing will not require the glass repairing or replacing as it is likely to be a result of something else. We advise that you try ventilating the room to let moisture out or turn on a dehumidifier. Getting the windows open for 10-15 minutes can help, or you could put on a special clear film to imitate double glazing. Another option we recommend is an installation of new uPVC double glazing windows. It can better regulate the temperature between the panes to avoid condensation.

If the problem persists after taking the actions above, it may be the time to contact a building specialist. You could get a diagnosis of requiring a dampproof course, changing roof tiles, clearing the drainage system or removing debris from wall cavities.
